The piano is the most popular, loved and most complete musical instrument.  There are several important reasons for this: range, dynamics, and color.

The piano has the widest range of all instruments - over seven octaves.  It also has an immense dynamic scale - whispering in pianissimo and thundering in fortissimo.  The color possibilities for an experienced pianist are endless.  From a "singing" melody line or "banging" rhythms, to sharp staccato and mellow legato tones, the piano can move the listener like no other instrument.

And all these dynamic and color effects are achieved in the most direct and intimate way, by touch.  The most sensual sense - the touch of your fingers - can express your sensitivity your thoughts and your feelings.
